At the University of Alberta we are looking for a better way to integrate Macs with our campus infrastructure. Our goal is to offer services for our Mac clients that meet or exceed those provided to our Windows clients. This talk will present some technologies we investigated to achieve this goal and some of the roadblocks we experienced along the way. In particular, we have invested in using Centrify for integration of our Macs with Active Directory and setup Munki to provide automatic updating of specific applications. We will present some of the more difficult technical barriers we faced implementing these technologies within our organization and some important lessons learned. Hopefully you will be able to draw some lessons from our experiences in order to more effectively manage the Mac computers in your own institution.
