Enterprise projects are often driven from an excitement surrounding a new technology or the “next big thing”. When investing in new technologies we should be held to a high standard to prove its merits and needs. In today’s enterprise we are expected to be doing more with less, so we need to ensure that every single project offers a real value to the organization and does not in fact do the opposite.
There is a recent shift in our enterprise, the days of "I've got to spend it or I will lose it” results in wasted money and implementation time. We instead need to ask ourselves "if I don't need it this year, where could it be better spent in our organization?". We must challenge ourselves to become more objective and look at the bigger problems to decide where we can maximize capital and operational dollars.
We will discuss strategies and tools that we have used to measure value of a proposal and our subsequent experiences. These include introduction of new committees and standardized proposal processes. We will discuss strategies and tools to measure the value of projects, including new committees and standardized process.
