Jackie Janes, Assistant Deputy Minister

Climate Change Branch, Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment.

Jackie Janes is an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador where she heads up the Climate Change Branch of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment. Prior to this, Jackie worked for the UK Government where she was responsible for policies and programs to improve energy efficiency and reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, and was an international climate change negotiator participating in the United Nations negotiations.

For six years, Jackie worked for the UK’s Department for International Development; her posts included time living and working in Africa. She was an economist in Her Majesty’s Treasury in the UK and worked for the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium. She holds a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University in the UK and a Master of Science in Rural Resources and Environmental Policy from Imperial College, University of London, UK.
