‘Safety Climate’ is a term first used to describe what the shared perceptions of employees are in how safety management is being ‘operationalised’ at a given moment in time. This study identified the emergent theme we labelled ‘persona’ which appears to be a factor not adequately addressed in any of the currently popular safety climate tools. This shows that we must look beyond simple measures of knowledge and competence if we are to achieve optimum performance from safety systems. Keywords.
