Big data, Cloud Computing, Mobile Internet and other new industries and technologies are changing the traditional survey, design, engineering construction management and maintenance mode. Railway engineering informatization technology carries the data model of railway structure, and includes rich design information and construction information. The operation and maintenance companies rely on these information can effectively improve the level of management and maintenance.
In this paper, combined with the characteristics of Big Data & Cloud Computing technology, the relationship between them and the future development trend, some typical applications of information technology are discussed for each stage of the whole life cycle (plan, survey, design, construction and operation) of rail transit engineering. These typical applications include: the planning stage—‘Planning and Decision Service of Railway Construction Project’ and ‘Setting up the three dimensional space route selection platform for rail transit based on Google Earth’; the survey and design stage—‘Cooperative processing and information extraction of multi-source observation data’, ‘Establishment of time & space Big Data database management system for track traffic engineering’, ‘Application of combination of GPS and GIS Technology’, ‘Intelligent Route selection Technology of Rail Transit based on Cloud Computing Technology’ and ‘Improve the design depth and precision and lay the foundation for project investment, quality and schedule control using Big Data technology’; the construction stage—‘Optimizing project design’ and ‘Optimization of construction process’; the operation and maintenance stage—‘Geological hazard monitoring’, ‘Traffic safety and intelligence tips’, ‘Detection of catenary system’ and ‘Maintenance and Management of Railway Operation facilities and equipment data’.
The purpose of this paper is to find out the application requirements of Big Data & Cloud Computing technology in the field of rail transit engineering, and to provide a reference for the next development and application. The results show that application requirements for Big Data & Cloud Computing technology are obvious in the whole life cycle of rail transit.
