Dry versus hydrated collagen scaffolds: are dry states representative of hydrated states?

Monika Supova

Department of Composites and Carbon Materials, Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics, The Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague

Monika Šupová received her Master degree in Chemical and Physical Methods for Testing of Materials, and a Ph.D. degree in Composite Materials from the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic. She is now a research scientist in the Department of Composite and Carbon Materials at Institute of Rock Structures and Mechanics, Czech Academy of Sciences, in which her research focuses on biocomposite materials, especially on calcium phosphates and collagens, and infrared spectrometry.

Abstract

AbstractIntroductionCollagen composite scaffolds have been used for a number of studies in tissue engineering. The hydration of such highly-porous and hydrophilic structures may influence mechanical behaviour and porosity due... [ view full abstract ]
