University of Tübingen

Alfred J. Meixner received his Diploma in Chemistry in 1984 and his PhD in Science in 1988 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), was an IBM World Trade Fellow and earned his Habilitation in Physics from the University of Basel in 1995. Meixner is Full Professor of Physical Chemistry and Director of the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen in Germany. His current research interests are single-molecule optical spectroscopy (fluorescence and plasmon enhanced Raman), quantum plasmonics, tip-enhanced near-field optical microscopy and chemical nano-spectroscopy.

Abstract

We demonstrate that photon emission induced by inelastic tunneling through a nanometer single gap between a sharp Au tip and an Au substrate can be significantly enhanced by the illumination of the junction with 634 nm laser... [ view full abstract ]
