Guided mode resonance enhanced upconversion fluorescence of rare earth nanoparticles in aqueous solution using a low refractive index resonant waveguide grating

Prof. Chia Chen Hsu received his PhD degree from Department of Physics, University of Arizona in 1991. Right after his graduation, he joined the Department of Physics, National Chung Cheng University. In the beginning, his research was mainly on the topics of nonlinear optics of polymer or organic materials. He switched his interest to nanophotonics in 2003. He has a strong interest to use sub-wavelength resonate waveguide grating structures to enhance light-matter interaction. Recently, His group has demonstrated upconversion fluorescence emission of rare earth nanoparticels can be enhanced more than 10000 fold by using a resonant waveguide grating structure.
