The conference music programme was organised by Mary Mc Partland. Mary who is the Traditional Artist in Residence at the Centre for Theatre and Performance at NUI Galway. She teaches Theatre History and Practice and the History of Irish Traditional Arts. She is also the Creative Director of the hugely successful Arts in Action programme at NUI Galway
A high profile professional singer, her albums include, the critically acclaimed “ The Holland Handkerchief” and “Petticoat Loose”
Before embarking on a fulltime career as a teacher and creative director at NUI Galway, Mary was working as a professional artist and arts practionner within the arts community throughout Ireland. She was the producer of many significant national cultural events, including the concept and development of the TG4 National Traditional Music Awards, a twelve part music series for TG4 and founder and producer of the innovative, award winning theatre association with writer Michael Harding and actor Tom Hickey.
She received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2013 to Lehman College (CUNY) and is currently working with jazz pianist Bertha Hope in New York, giving performances in New York, Galway and Montpellier (France), which also included their highly praised debut concert at the Irish Arts Centre in New York November 2013. A new CD is in research for 2014/2015 to include a tribute to the legendary singer and writer Jean Ritchie from the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky.
