Healthcare faces major challenges including an aging population (a triumph) with multimorbidity and associated polypharmacy (sometimes good, sometimes not so good). Such is situation is about as far away from rules-based decision making based on population averages as it is possible to be. And yet conventional approaches still favour imposed approaches and solutions rooted in populations and processes, rather than using one of the major, established, traditional strengths of health care – meaningful conversations with patients.
I will cover how an understanding of human decision making can support conversations with people about their care.
