Abstract.
In September 2011 the staff and residents of St Brendans Community Nursing Unit Loughrea transferred to a new nursing unit. The unit has all modern amenities and is situated on a beautiful site overlooking the lake of Loughrea. However the clinical ambience overshadowed some of the recreational spaces. With this uppermost in our minds additional leisure and entertainment spaces were identified and developed to add to quality of life for our residents
The projects identified to create that special place in St Brendan’s were
“The Parlour”
“Hairdressing Saloon”
“Garden- Garrai na mBócht”
The parlour is an opulent space where residents can relax or receive guests and have tea or coffee in luxurious surroundings.
The hairdressing salon is a very busy place enjoyed by residents where they are styled and pampered while enjoying a chat under the dryer.
The garden “Garrai na mBócht” has blossomed into a beautiful peaceful space enjoyed by many all year round; it is a haven for wildlife with a butterfly patch, bird feeding & nesting amenities. The garden is family friendly has paths, grass surface, seating & a gazebo suitable for all. These facilities offer residents the opportunity to continue to take pleasure from some of the activities that they always enjoyed.
