Future-proofing Public Media: The AAPB National Digital Stewardship Residency

Rebecca Fraimow

WGBH

After first coming to the WGBH Media Library and Archives as a National Digital Stewardship (NDSR) Resident in 2014, Rebecca joined the staff of WGBH in 2015, where she currently focuses on the Public Broadcasting Preservation Fellowship, the development of the PBCore metadata standard, and the ongoing migration of digital assets. Prior to moving up north, Rebecca served as the Audiovisual Projects Manager for the Dance Heritage Coalition, managing a large-scale endeavor to digitize and make accessible dance-related media. She also worked on the XFR STN exhibit at the New Museum, which opened up video preservation to the public, and subsequently co-founded XFR Collective, a New York-based nonprofit organization focused on the preservation of at-risk and obsolete community media. Rebecca holds an MA in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation from NYU. 

Leslie Bourgeois

Louisiana Public Broadcasting

Leslie Bourgeois is the archivist at Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) in Baton Rouge.  She has held this position since 2009.  As the first fully trained archivist in the history of LPB, she has been responsible for organizing, preserving and cataloging LPB’s archival collection, which dates back to the station’s debut in September 1975. She is the project manager for the Louisiana Digital Media Archive, a joint project between LPB and the Louisiana State Archives.  She also manages LPB’s participation with the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, a project under the direction of the WGBH Media Library and Archives and the Library of Congress.  Bourgeois has a Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in political science and a Master of Library and Information Science with a specialization in archives management from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.  She is also a Certified Archivist.    

Catriona Schlosser

CUNY-TV

Catriona Schlosser is the Archivist at CUNY Television and supervises preservation efforts to digitize analog collections, facilitate collections access and research, and manages cataloging efforts. She performs quality assurance on digitized material and preps files for long-term preservation at CUNY TV. She was a co-mentor with Dave Rice in the 2016-2017 AAPB-NDSR program where she collaborated with resident Andrew Weaver.  Catriona comes to CUNY Television from archival work experiences at NBC News, Todo Mundo, A&E Television Network, and NYU Archives. She has an MA in Public History and Archives from New York University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Selena Chau

Los Angeles Philharmonic

Selena Chau currently works as the Digital Archives Manager at the Los Angeles Philharmonic and tweets at @selena_sjsu. After a career in dance performance, Selena received her Master of Library and Information Sciences degree and has applied her project management and technical skills in museum, research library, and broadcast environments. She recently crafted an audio preservation and access plan for KBOO 90.7 in Portland, Oregon as part of the AAPB National Digital Stewardship Residency. Selena has published and presented her work through international archives organizations, led training workshops, and is on the board of the Theatre Library Association.

Lorena Ramirez-Lopez

DC Public Library Memory Lab Network

Lorena Ramírez-López was the AAPB national digital stewardship resident at Howard University television station in Washington, D.C. Currently, she is a research assistant for a time-based media survey at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City as well as a time-based media consultant for Small Data Industries in Brooklyn. A native New Yorker and advocate for web archiving and international exchanges, she has worked in various institutions throughout her career including the Memory Lab Network at DC Public Library, Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Museu do Arte Moderna in Rio de Janiero, WITNESS, and much more.
