Deanna Mackey
PTMMG
Deanna Martin Mackey is the president of the Public Television Major Market Group (PTMMG), an organization of 40 PBS member stations in the largest U.S. television markets. Mackey took the helm in August, 2015 as the group’s first full-time leader. In this role, Mackey focuses her time on project and communications management on behalf of the stations and national leadership activities. . Prior to joining the PTMMG, Mackey worked for 25 years at KPBS, the public media station in San Diego, serving as Station Manager/COO in her final six years at the station. During her career at KPBS, Mackey worked in management roles in editorial, communications, fundraising and digital departments. She is credited with spearheading KPBS.org as a third content platform; creating and implementing KPBS’ converged newsroom, a model for the system; developing the industry’s first One Book program run by a public media station; and establishing the station’s strategic planning process. Mackey serves on the PBS Digital Media Advisory Committee (DMAC) and formerly chaired the Integrated Media Association (IMA), the industry’s first organization focused on digital media. In 2015, she co-founded the Public Media Women in Leadership Group. The group provides mentorship and training for women as well as addressing issues of gender inequality in the executive ranks of public television and radio. Mackey serves as a Girl Scout troop leader for 21 middle school girls and spent 10 years in governance for Girl Scouts San Diego, as a board member and committee chair. Mackey is a former board member of the San Diego Autism Society, where she served on the online technology and grant writing committees. In 2014 Mackey was named a YWCA Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) honoree for her work mentoring women at KPBS and via the Girl Scouts. She was named Outstanding Alumnus from SDSU’s Daily Aztec newspaper in the same year and in 2010 was named one of five “Women who Move the City” by San Diego Magazine.Prior to working at KPBS, Mackey was a writer and editor for several San Diego-based publications. She spent her early years in journalism as a radio news writer. Mackey earned her bachelor of arts from San Diego State University with a double major in journalism and political science. She lives in San Diego with her three children.
Debra Solt
Vegas PBS
Debra Solt serves as the Director of Workforce Training and Economic Development for Vegas PBS and the Desert Meadows AHEC, which launched in November 2014 under the Vegas PBS Workforce Initiative. She was responsible for the development and implementation of Vegas PBS’s Workforce initiatives and directly contracts with local business and industry, as well as works with students and workforce service providers to develop individual learning plans to retrain individuals for entry in today’s workforce. Vegas PBS’s Workforce Department served over 156,000 individuals in 2016/7 with almost 134,000 served in their online learning portal named GOAL (Global Online Advanced Learning). Her department has developed and launched the online training initiative with three other public media stations in Oklahoma, Utah and Virginia. Ms. Solt is known nationally and internationally as a specialist in collaborating with business and industry for the development and implementation of customized workforce programs that produce measurable results for clients and the community-at-large. Programs have ranged from adult literacy to administrative management and ethics, have been designed and delivered in traditional and non-traditional learning platforms, and have crossed all industry sectors and management levels. She has been recognized and commended for her vision, dedication, passion, and commitment to building better communities through workforce education, training, and community service and was named one of Las Vegas Business Press’ 2014 Women Who Mean Business and was also named Vegas Inc.’s Women to Watch for 2013. Solt sits on numerous state, local and national councils and regularly speaks locally and nationally on workforce and education topics and issues.
Cheraine Stanford
Content Strategy Director
Cheraine Stanford is the Director of Content Strategy at WPSU, responsible for developing the strategy for the station's original productions across digital, radio and television. She is the Vice-Chair of the PBS Digital Media Advisory Council and was a 2016 Next Generation Leadership Senior Editorial Fellow embedded with the science series NOVA. Stanford is also a moderator, narrator, radio and TV host. For many years, Stanford was a journalist, producer, director and writer with a career spanning print, web, TV and independent film. She previously worked at WETA-TV on Washington Week With Gwen Ifill and at Maysles Films in New York. Her work has garnered a Mid-Atlantic Emmy, a Cine Golden Eagle and a Peabody Award. Her productions include the multi-platform projects Women in Science Profiles (WisciFiles) and Water Blues - Green Solutions, the television documentaries Holding History and As Long As We Dance, the web series Finding Your Roots: The Seedlings and The Geospatial Revolution and the multimedia project African American Chronicles. Stanford holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.F.A. from Temple University.
