Denmark rail upgrade human factors; a supplier case study

Amanda J. Widdowson is the Human Factors (HF) Capability Lead for Quintec, a Thales business, responsible for managing, developing and expanding a large, professional team of HF consultants, business development, and providing HF consultancy support. For twenty years she has applied HF to a variety of sectors, in particular rail and defence. She was previously the Professional head of human factors/ergonomics for Tube Lines, (later London Underground) and HF Asset Engineer signatory for the company. The majority of the work pertained to London Underground station refurbishments; train design; signalling control centre design; software design; incident investigation and input to safety cases. Prior to this, she initiated the HF strategy for Crossrail as HFI Manager and conducted a significant amount of HF work for Network Rail and London Underground.

Amanda C. Elliott

Innovace Desgins Ltd

Dr. Amanda C. Elliott is the owner of the Human Factors and Safety consultancy Innovace Designs, established in 2001. Her focus for the past 14 years has been in the rail industry, working on a wide range of train, signalling and depot programmes. Notably: the original Hitachi Class 395 High Speed Train; LU S Stock and VLU train cab designs; Neasden Depot upgrade and depot equipment design; and both on supplier and client side for the Danish resignalling programme.
