This roundtable will consider Headteacher Autonomy and moral dialogues with respect to education policy and sustainability.

Do Headteachers as a profession even want autonomy? And if so what are the boundaries and limits? I shall aim to differentiate and discuss some Classical liberal assumptions about education, with particular respect to autonomy using the work of Nussbaum and consider a possible defence of autonomy and personhood. What are the key tenets for Headteachers to create a better understanding of their own rationales and how do they realise this in practice? How are the boundaries and limits played out in their own communities? How is autonomy constructed and understood in practice and is autonomy desired or even sustainable in the current policy landscape?
