Martin Kevorkian is Professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of Writing beyond Prophecy: Emerson, Hawthorne and Melville after the American Renaissance (2013) and Color Monitors: The Black Face of Technology in America (2006), as well various essays on literature and religion, including “Reading the Bloody ‘Face of Nature’: The Persecution of Religion in Hawthorne's The Marble Faun” and “ ‘You Must Never Move the Body!’: Burying Irving's Text in ‘Sleepy Hollow.’”
