Dr. Erica Hannickel is an associate professor of environmental history at Northland College (WI). Her publications include Empire of Vines: Wine Culture in America (Penn, 2013) and articles in ISLE, American Studies, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Comparative American Studies. As Northland College’s Hulings Distinguished Chair in the Humanities (2017-2020), she is at work on a book manuscript investigating the early cultural history of the Missouri Botanical Garden and the scientific mind behind it, George Engelmann. She received her PhD in American Studies from the University of Iowa in 2008.
