This panel presents an introduction to national Research Data Management systems around the globe. Linda Naughton, head of research at Jisc, will explain RDM Shared Services in the UK as well as a roadmap to their RDM infrastructure development, which in many ways parallels our development in Canada. Members will discuss similarities and differences between the two countries and the emerging partnership roadmap.
Mark Leggott will talk about the Scholar Metadata Ecosystem including a description of the web services needed to authenticate researcher identities (e.g., ORCID) and to use this metadata in other RDM services and research communications.
The "network effect" in software development will also be explored including some examples in the developments that are happening around RDM infrastructure.
Alan Darnell will describe the various service models that Scholars Portal employs to support research data services for the Ontario Council of University Libraries, including Odesi, Dataverse, and Scholars GeoPortal. He will also discuss the contribution that a regional library consortium can make to a national initiative, such as Portage, in providing research data management platforms and services.
