Steve Beaudry

Royal Roads University

Stephen Beaudry, the manager of the Server, Network, and Telecom Infrastructure team, has been a member of Royal Roads University’s staff for over 15 years, and avidly involved with technology for over 25. Steve started with Royal Roads teaching network technologies, security, and systems administration, then eventually moved into the IT department. During his time managing that unit, he has led the team there through the successful implementation of their VoIP system, wireless network deployment, 10GB Ethernet core networking, and many other infrastructure projects. He is responsible for the virtualization of the data centre there, and has successfully made use of many open source technologies and commodity hardware to reduce the TCO of the data centre significantly, while maintaining higher availability and increasing performance.

Kenneth Forward

Memorial University

Ken Forward is the Manager of Information Protection and Security with the Office of the Chief Information Officer at Memorial University. Ken has over 25 years' experience in IT, as a programmer, sys admin, networker, and - for the last 16 years – an IT security professional. He holds a number of IT security certifications including the CISSP, and has for the last eight years been Memorial's representative on the CUCCIO Security Special Interest Group.

David Shipley

University of New Brunswick

David helps build and execute strategies designed to reduce cost, improve productivity, boost revenue and protect technology assets and information. A member UNB's cybersecurity team, he has dealt with more than 600 incidents in the past few years. David's is responsible for UNB's cybersecurity awareness campaigns and threat intelligence efforts. David has a Bachelor of Arts in Information and Communications Studies and a Master of Business Administration from UNB. He is a Canadian Forces veteran and co-founder of Beauceron Security, a new start-up focused on the human aspects of cybersecurity.

Jason Testart

University of Waterloo

Jason Testart is currently Director of Information Security Services in IST. Over the last 7 years, Jason has grown the information security function at Waterloo from a single FTE with a reactive focus on technology infrastructure security to a team of 8 who provide expertise and services in all areas of information security, including identity and access management.

Gordie Mah

University of Alberta

Gordie is the UofA’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), as part of the Vice-Provost - Information Services and Technology (VP-IST) Office. As CISO, he provides senior leadership at the University towards safeguarding/protecting the University’s information and IT assets. Accordingly, Gordie develops/implements security governance, policies, analysis, and risk/incident management. Gordie holds a MSc, and the designations of Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Prior to joining the UofA, he oversaw IT Security for the Alberta Cancer Board and served as Security Advisor for Alberta Health and Wellness.

Kevin Vadnais

University of Lethbridge

Kevin has been at the University of Lethbridge since 2009, and in the security field since July of 2010. Prior to his entrance into post secondary information technology he worked as a developer for Hewlett Packard for 8 years. Kevin's interest in the security field has often been described as obsessive, but he's positive that's just an overstatement. He finds joy in life through activities with his family, volunteering in a local Scouts Canada organization, and scaring community groups who ask him to come speak about Information Security topics.

Hugh Burley

Thompson Rivers University

Hugh Burley | Manager Information Security | Thompson Rivers UniversityHugh is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and managing the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Information Security Program. Hugh sits on the TRU Information Security Committee and chairs the TRU Information Security Team. He also participates in several security-related working groups including the BCNET Security Working Group (SWG), the Canadian University Council of CIO's (CUCCIO) Information Security Special Interest Group (SIG), and is active on the EDUCAUSE Security list and the Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Centre list (REN-ISAC). Hugh was the first Information Security Track Chair for Information Technology for British Columbia (IT4BC) in 2008 and 2009 and has been a member of the Vancouver Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Summit Governing Body since 2013. Hugh holds the following current certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls (CRISC). Hugh has recently been appointed the ISO for BCNET.
