Our computing landscape is changing. The proliferation of university managed mobile devices is on the rise. Mobile devices cost more than computers, especially when you take into account monthly wireless fees.
How many universities:
• secure sensitive University data on mobile devices?
• monitor and track mobile devices, especially tablets?
• audit and control monthly fees and expenses?
• support device acquisition for all its customers in selecting appropriate devices and plans?
• are incurring risk due to unsecured devices?
• are missing out on many cost-saving opportunities?
Carleton is following the lead from uWaterloo, St. FX and UNB to launch its own mobility strategy.
We approached Senior Management seeking support to launch a phased mobility strategy which would encompass the following;
• Create policies to provide framework for eligibility, appropriate usage and cost reimbursement all under a standardized mobile contract
• Establish a Centre of Excellence; for device acquisition, support & training
• Implement Centralized MDM to enroll, secure and track mobile devices throughout their lifecycle
• Launch a communications strategy to inform the campus community
By creating a phased mobile device strategy, univerisities like Carleton can save money and allow for more widespread adoption.
