The dynamics of IT in Higher Education dictate that practitioners are subject to continuous learning and development. Given that we already exist in a constant state of change and development, why, when and how should those in IT leadership roles step away from their daily operational and situational learning to engage in deliberate professional development opportunities?
Canadian Higher Ed IT leaders will provide participants with current, first hand and ‘fresh’ experiences in various professional development programs and will elaborate on what they believe are the benefits of pursuing 'out of band' learning for themselves and for their peers. Audience members will also be invited to share their own perspectives and experiences in these or other beneficial professional development programs for IT practitioners and leaders which may not be covered in this session.
Art Exner, Director of Communications and Infrastructure, Information Services, at the University of Regina, will provide his perspectives on professional development and will discuss the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) Senior University Administrators Course (SUAC) he attended in June 2016.
Gayleen Gray, Deputy CIO and Associate Director, Computing and Communications Services at the University of Guelph, will share her most recent adventure at the EDUCAUSE Leading Change Institute (LCI) in June 2016.
Keith McWhirter, Associate Director, ITS at Queen's University will discuss the recent completion of his Executive MBA (granted in May 2016) and how he is leveraging the experience to further ITS' role as an enabler of the academy.
