Each student has different learning needs & where a personalised learning approach is taken to their education, students & their educators work to tailor pedagogy, curriculum, & the learning environment to suit those needs. Central to personalisation is choice, which gives students authentic opportunities for personalising their learning. By embedding apps into our T&L practices, & encouraging the creative use of apps to collaborate amongst themselves, to access information, engage with it, & express their understanding of it, we create unique opportunities for them to personalise their learning. Technology has made personalisation easier than ever before, & The 12 Apps of Christmas project 2015 focused on helping 3rd level students with one aspect of this process – how to access information, engage with it, &/or express their knowledge & understanding of it in line with their learning preferences, before going on to show how mobile apps can help. This session will present feedback from both the educators and students who participated in the project last December. This feedback highlighted a variety of issues that need to be addressed by the institute, staff & students around the integration of mobile technologies if we are to embrace fully the potential mobile technologies hold for personalisation & learning.
