First year students need training in key areas such as general study skills and citation & referencing. However lecturers for the most part while they are subject matter experts, they are not necessarily the best people to teach these crucial skills. The challenge is if these skills are seen as "extras" to a course, students have no extrinsic motivation to undertake such training. "Learning how to study effectively at university cannot be separated from subject content and the process of learning" (Wingate, 2006). This short talk outlines how we easily embed centralised online content into a range of first year programmes by using a customised Moodle plugin.
