This fast paced, visual talk will explore ways in which openness can promote equality in Learning Technology. Drawing on my experience of 5 years in a Learning Technology leadership position working with organisations and individuals from across different education contexts this session will start by examining where we are in achieving equality.
The aim of the session is to use key examples of open networks and initiatives that promote equality, highlight their impact and question their limitations to provide some brief critical reflection. One example will be the emerging femedtech network (http://femedte.ch/) that I support. Another will be the recent OER17 conference (OER17: The Politics of Open at https://oer17.oerconf.org/) and the voices of the keynote and plenary speakers including Maha Bali, Diana Arce, Lucy Crompton-Read, Catherine Cronin, Maureen O'Keefe and Laura Czerniewicz as well as the Co-Chairs Josie Fraser and Alek Tarkowski. The third example will be a network of groups supported by the Association for Learning Technology in the UK (https://www.alt.ac.uk/about-alt/special-interest-and-members-groups).
The talk will conclude with some personal reflections on being an open practitioner and a call to action to get involved in promoting equality in Learning Technology through openness.
