The use of video instructional video has become ubiquitous in education and has underpinned the development of blended learning, the flipped classroom and the emergence of MOOCs. Technological advances have also facilitated the development of interactive features in instructional video. While there is sufficient evidence to indicate that interactive video is effective for learning , there is a need for greater understanding of the impact of the various interactive activities that can now be embedded in instructional videos.
This presentation will focus on interactive features created using "h5p" . h5p is a free and open source, web based content editor that facilitates adding interactive content to video recordings on exiting publishing platforms. The presentation will review this learning resource from the practitioner perspective, before presenting findings from research undertaken with students. These new law students, on a pilot "foundations of legal study" module at the Law Society of Ireland, had the opportunity to compare video presentations with and without the interactive features created through h5p. Their perspective on engaging with the interactivity can be instructive for future teaching and learning on this blended learning course and offer insight to educators in other settings.
