In recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of universities using eportfolios driven in part by the prevalence of information technologies for learning but more significantly the pedagogical shift towards innovative methods that support student centred active learning. But how do we measure students engagement with eportfolios? What do we measure? What does success look like from a pprogramme or an institution point of view?
This presentation outlines a collaborative project between DCU and the University of Sussex which focussed on the learning analytics available through the eportfolio platform: Mahara. These analytics include activity by individual users and groups in addition to collaboration type activities. The project was funded through a UK based teaching and learning fund and the presentation will also outline how other HEI's in Ireland could apply for this type of funding in the future.
