Over the last decade, eportfolios in higher education have been recognised for their transformational power in the learning process (Batson, 2013). They are seen as dynamic platforms to make learning visible through diverse artefacts, to showcase academic and personal skills and achievements. However, there can be challenges in effectively harnessing eportfolio to transform teaching and learning practices and the movement towards eportfolio practice needs to be scaffolded. This interactive session will share key learnings from the institution wide eportfolio implementation at DCU since 2016.
The story of the eportfolio initiative in DCU will be told through an innovative mix of media including discussion, video, and participant polling highlighting the key strategies employed to develop a culture of eportfolio. Student Showcase competitions in particular will be highlighted and their role as a catalyst for promoting, rewarding and sharing eportfolio practice.
The session will be useful to those just starting their eportfolio journey and those looking to embed eportfolio at the heart of teaching and learning practices. An infographic cheat sheet of strategic and operational strategies will be shared with all participants to support the development and growth of eportfolio practice in their home institutions.
