When we discuss Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) there is a danger of leading with the T and not focusing on how it can enhance learning. Therefore we should consider leading with the L and consider how Learning is Enhanced by Technology? Before considering how or what technologies we might use, we need to start with the Why question. Why am I using technology and how might it assist me and my learners to redesign learning experiences so that we move beyond activities that are often at the Tech Literacy Level to Knowledge Deepening and Knowledge Creation. The schools sector has developed a Digital Learning Framework (DLF) which has recognised the need for its students to be prepared to construct their own understandings and be able to work collaboratively to solve "unstructured problems" and to " become engaged thinkers, active learners, knowledge constructors and global citizens to participate fully in society and the economy". The Department of Education and Skills has developed their DLF to support and enable teachers to enhance their teaching practices so as to create deeper learning experiences for all learners. This presentation will share how the DLF was developed and the potential implications it could have for other sectors.
