Driving automation is prominent in contemporary consumer vehicles. Road users in such vehicles are facing several challenges as current legislation requires the driver to resume control of the vehicle if need be. At the time of a transfer of control, the driver may suffer from underload and reduced situation awareness. As a way of mitigating such issues, the Gricean maxims are proposed as a way to facilitate restoration of situation awareness to ensure a safe transfer of control.
