The paper shows how capture and exploitation of knowledge in diverse areas such as materials, manufacturing management, ergonomics and human factor studies, can be combined to better inform for process control in the manufacture of a component with high variability in task sequence and operation. It shows how such works can be applied into SME’s in a successful manner without necessarily requiring increased instruction or overhead. Such application increases quality and reduces cost from a product point of view, but also improves the environmental conditions in the manufacturing facility.
