Bill Cooke & Nic Beech

BAM

Nic Beech is Vice-Principal (Academic Planning & Performance) at the University of Dundee and Chair of the British Academy of Management. He has published widely on various aspects of management and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and Academy of Social Sciences. His research interests are in change management and leadership and the construction of identity in the music industry, health, financial services and creative industries. His recent publications include books published by Cambridge University Press: Managing Creativity (with B. Townley, 2010), Managing Change (with R. MacIntosh, 2012) and Organising Music (with C. Gilmore, 2015).

Bill Cooke is Professor of Strategic Management in The York Management School. He has published widely in top ranked journals such as Human Relations, Organization and Academy of Management Learning and Education, and is known for his work on the spatial and temporal spread of management ideas. That is, he researches the spread of management ideas around the world, and over time. He is particularly interested in trajectories which challenge the accepted wisdom that ‘business’ is the agent of the spread of managerialism, and so focuses on the role of international organizations like the World Bank, and of modern imperialism in the formation of the modern world. He has a particular, but not exclusive, interest in ‘soft management’ which seeks to change the attitudes of workers – change management, culture change, participatory method and consultancy. He has also written on slavery and management.
