In recent years sustainable supply chain risk management (SSCRM) has attracted academic and business interest. To further advance research in the field, the purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, it provides a literature review on sustainable supply chain risk management taking into consideration 37 papers in peer reviewed journals published from 2004 to 2016. Second, it offers a conceptual framework towards to the management and mitigation of sustainability risks in SCs. Network analysis is used complementary, to identify linkages between assumingly distant clusters of literature. Further, it discusses weaknesses of the existing literature providing prescriptions for further improvement. At the end, research directions are suggested; this should provoke a forward looking approach for SSCRM.
