This study utilises scenario planning techniques to explore possible futures for the European business environment towards 2020. A six stage modified scenario development design was used to develop the writing of four scenarios relating to Brexit; an oil crisis, the Schengen agreement; and the US presidential election. Feedback the work of a Delphi panel was used to guide the writing of a scenario statement questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to postgraduate students in the UK and Ireland. The findings from the questionnaire informed further work by the Delphi panel. The four scenarios presented in this paper provide an account of possible futures for the EU business environment. The purpose of this study is to generate discussion and inform teaching and research activities in business schools.
