Tourism is viewed as an essential driver of regional development and growth (Rodríguez-Díaz and Espino-Rodríguez 2008), which requires destinations to be managed to ensure continued growth and sustainability. In order to manage the multiplicity of offerings at a destination level, the Destination Management Organisation (DMO) plays an essential role in coordinating and integrating destination stakeholders (Volgger and Pechlaner 2014; Sautter and Leisen 1999) by leveraging destination resources and capabilities (Denicolai et al. 2010; Lemmetyinen and Go, 2009). This paper applies a network lens which embraces the peculiarities of the destination network (i.e. public agencies, private enterprise and host community) at the destination level. ‘Kilkenny City’ is examined as a single case site to study how destination activities are coordinated at the destination level. The practical contribution of this research is significant, as superior management performance at the destination level can result in improved economic wellbeing for individual firms.
