This paper reports the preliminary findings of an ongoing qualitative investigation into the perceptions and experiences of the professionalization Irish family businesses. Based on in-depth interviews with three family-member managers and three non-family managers in Ireland, the process of professionalization is explored from the perspective of the family and the non-family employee. Preliminary analysis reveals professionalization to be an organic process for Irish family businesses.
