Wine cooperatives have gone considerable changes and restructuring over the last few years. Only a limited number of studies addressed the economic and managerial challenges of wine cooperatives in an international perspective (see, for example, Touzard et al., 2007 ; Couderc et al., 2008).
This work focus is on the comprehension on similarities and differences in terms of governance, organization and strategies and to explain how cooperatives adapted to a variety of international contexts (France, Portugal, Slovenia, and Chile) influenced by changes in the regulatory framework and the economic downturn.
Our methodology uses the case study approach to assess the strategies and resilience in different institutional settings. Case studies were based on face to face and phone interviews with key stakeholders in the industry.
