The paper will start by talk about the modern cooperatives model and the resistance of cooperatives to the economic crisis and the sustainability of cooperatives as a business model.
As cooperatives are the most sustainable business model they are often used as an option of transferring traditional companies to a cooperative. This is something that is very interesting for different types of companies.
In Slovenia this option of transferring a traditional company into a coop is often an idea/option when a traditional company goes bankrupt or in the case when the Slovenian government has decided to privatize state-owned enterprises. In this case a worker buyout is something that would be an option.
In the paper I will discuss how the political and social environment for worker buyouts and coop transformation of traditional companies is changing and developing in Slovenia.
The paper will also discuss one policy topics and case study of transferring traditional companies to cooperatives in Slovenia. One is the proposed Law od worker buyouts and another is the governments study on how to transfer the countries third biggest retailer info a consumer cooperative.
