The Yield is an Australian-based agricultural technology company that has developed an integrated end-to-end solution for oyster growers and industry regulators. Our system allows stakeholders throughout the entire oyster supply chain to harness the power of digital technology to increase yields and reduce risk. The use of cloud based systems allows for the efficient management of the large quantity of data generated by high resolution real-time monitoring. This makes the utilisation of big data and machine learning processes a viable proposition for small producers.
Our system uses the data from individual harvest areas, combined with local weather data to provide 3 day predictions of salinity and water temperature, providing richer information for stakeholders making harvest management and /or on-farm decisions easier. This data is also being used to increase the effectiveness of harvest management plans, using real time local environmental data to move from rainfall to salinity based closure triggers reducing unnecessary harvest area closures. Machine learning allows the system to constantly adapt to changing environmental conditions. The Yield is working with a multidisciplinary team across the fields of mathematics, IT, HABs, microbiology and shellfish husbandry to understand and help the industry identify multivariable interactions that impact shellfish production and food safety.
