Mervin Meyer

University of the Western Cape

Mervin Meyer is a Professor of Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape (South Africa). He is the Director of the Department of Science and Technology/Mintek Nanotechnology Innovation Centre (NIC) Biolabels Unit. The objective of this Unit is the development of nanostructured materials for applications (therapeutics and diagnostics) in medicine to address South African national health priorities. Prof. Meyer’s research interests include the development of apoptosis-based nanotherapeutics and biomolecular (peptides and aptamers) functionalised nanoparticles for applications in the rapid diagnosis of communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS and TB).

Abstract

Anti-angiogenic therapies are practical strategies for the treatment of both obesity and cancer. The aim of this study was to develop gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for targeted anti-angiogenic therapy. The objective was to... [ view full abstract ]
