We analyzed electrical measurements of a ferromagnetic inductor (FML) as a dynamical nonlinear circuit element and observed a pinched hysteresis loop in the plot of the time derivative of its current versus voltage v. Using the classifications of Chua, we constructed a model of an extended inductor or a second-order mem(-1,0) element, with good agreement to the measured characteristics. We showed that by installing a normal linear inductor in parallel with the FML, the latter displayed a negative (differential) inductance accompanied by a significant decrease in power dissipation.
