The computer is one of the greatest inventions in human history, with which we have built a digital universe that has totally changed our living environment. However, the development of traditional computing systems now faces great challenges, such as the “memory wall” and the ending of Moore’s Law in the near future. Brain inspired computing systems are some of the most promising technologies to overcome these challenges. In this talk, three issues will be discussed: (1) why do we really need brain inspired computing system? (2) what insights can the brain offer to make the brain inspired computing system fundamentally different from the traditional computer system? and (3) how to build brain inspired computing systems without a complete understanding of the brain mechanisms? The possible solutions and strategy to develop a brain inspired computing system will be addressed.
