Palaeobathymetric reconstruction was one of the important foundations of basin analysis, sequence stragraphic study as well as paleogeomorphy recovery. Quantitative or semi-quantitative palaeobathymetry constrains the basin shape through geological time.
This paper seeks to expand understanding by providing a wider and more integrated approach to the problem of palaeobathymetric reconstructions of the Yingshan Formation of the Lower Ordovician for the Yubei area, Eastern Markit Slope, Tarim Basin, Northwest China. In structurally complex basins, such as Tarim Basin, previous work is often an oversimplification, as the simplified approaches do not detect the spatial variations in basin shape through geological time. In order to perform the three-dimensional modeling, using a 3D method to restoring palaeobathymetry, based on a semi-quantitative 2D geometrical approach.
The 3D restoration integrates with a semi-quantitative method with wells was introduced to restore paleo-depth of water and checking, based on geochemical characteristics and rules of migration and accumulation of Th, U, and K. Characterized the strong reductibility system as log analysis with the method in the Yingshan Formation of the Lower Ordovician. The technique of 3D method restoring suggested that the main emphasis should be on zero or near-zero water depth indicators as these are more reliable.
Bathymetric input has been shown to be important in defining tectonic phases in the Hetian paleouplift phase at Lower Ordovician in the Yubei area.
