The rational decomposition of deposition rate cure is a key section of the basin dynamic analysis, and moving window method currently used is affected by artificial factors. The Empirical Mode Decomposition method is very suitable for processing no-liner non-stationary date, and has special advantages in depositing Irregular signal. An attempt on using empirical mode decomposition for the decomposition of deposition rate curve is presented in this essay.
The data are from Puguang 4 well in Sichuan basin, north Tarim uplift 1 well in Tarim curves consisted of deposition rate in different era. It is decomposed to a series of IMFs by EMD method, and each IMF is artificially fitted with a sine function. The period corresponds to deposition period; the amplitude corresponds to deposition energy; the initial phase corresponds to the time the period starts from.
Compared with the results obtained by moving windows that has done by past research, it is shown that the results from two methods are similar; the main characteristics are similar to the data gotten by moving window. However, the EMD method is more efficient and faster; the IMFs dissociated from deposition date diagram have better periodicity and more stability. The regularity showed by IMFs is better than moving window. The periodicity and stability of the amplitude and period are better as the period increases.
Using EMD method to decompose deposition rate curve has a certain feasibility. The practicality still needs to verify and the arithmetic can be further improved according to wave geology characteristics.
