Three senonian formations of the Northern side of the High Atlas of Marrakesh correspond to Anou-nfeg Formation attributed of Coniancian corresponding to 3rd order sequences (SI and SII), Aït Abbes Fm (SIII et SIV), attributed to Santonian ages, and Chichaoua Formation (SVI, SVII et SVIII), of Maastrichtian age. The Campanian is a sedimentary break. The sedimentation takes place on an enclosed environment coast subject to marine incursions, under hot and arid conditions.
Two tectonic phases are recognized; the first one during the Santonian and the second during the Maastrichtian. These phases induced the formation of small confined basins separated by emerged highs
