This paper will explore an elderly service network in a rural community in the East Coast of Taiwan and empirically test how a network characteristic, closure, might influence the mode of elderly service delivery. Chai and Rhee (2009), for instance, tried to explain the behaviors of East Asian firms under the influence of Confucianism using the theory of closure and argue that firms in East Asian tend to capitalize long-lasting and close ties. This study will examines long-term and close ties might play critical roles in a rural community and hopes to provide further understanding in collaborative service by investigating how clients’ outcomes could be improved through networking among organizations.
