This paper examines the impact of knowledge sharing behavior of knowledge donators on the job satisfaction of information receivers. The authors suggest that job satisfaction is not so much directly affected by knowledge sharing itself but through the availability of job-related information achieved by effective knowledge management. It is hypothesized that this availability of information mediates the relationship between knowledge sharing and job satisfaction. This is in line with self-determination theory and the job demands-resources model. The hypothesis is tested with the Federal Viewpoint Survey dataset from 2015. Results show the positive impact of knowledge sharing on job satisfaction. Hereby, the availability of information partially mediates this relationship. Additionally, our results underline the relevance of social support and relatedness through knowledge sharing.
