Eco-efficiency assessment of dairy wastewater reuse

Martin Rygaard

Technical University of Denmark

Martin is an associate professor at Technical University of Denmark. He has a background in water resources and water supply engineering. He is currently developing methods for performance assessment of urban and industrialwater systems. Engineering skills and models are used to simulate and predict the performance of water systems now and in the future. Then life-cycle assessment, eco-effciency, and multicriteria analysis is developed to assess the performance of the water systems. One example is our use of water quality modelling and life-cycle assessment to determine the environmental and economic impact of designed drinking water quality e.g. from desalination or softening. Another example is eco-efficiency assessment of industrial water use.

Abstract

The food processing industry is a major water user in many countries and, for example, in Denmark the food sector’s water use amounts to 43% of the total industrial water use. The large water consumption is related to an... [ view full abstract ]
