Buz began his career looking to design intelligent machines. But he realized early on that to do that, he needed to understand how humans accomplish the actions we consider intelligent. This sent him on a career-long journey of exploration and discovery, encountering the challenges he issued so often along the way. He spent his last few years trying to understand and recount how what call ‘intelligence’ today emerged in our species, in co-authorship with me. I will recount his intellectual trajectory and discuss the challenge we were working on together and which I will bring to something that passes for a (tentative) conclusion.
