Accidental injuries are a common health problem among children. In this study all children (aged 0-18 years) attending the emergency department in SQUH due to injuries during the period November 2015-February 2016 were invited with their parents to participate. the objective of the study was to assess factors associated to the accidental injuries and to valuate parents judgement of the supervision provided to the children.
Children were identified from the hospital electronic medical record system. Parents were then contacted by telephonic call within 2 weeks of hospital visit and were invited to participate in the study. Those who accepted to participate were requested to answer the questionnaire prepared by the research team to fulfill the objectives of the study. ethical approval was obtained from the college of Medicine and Health Sciences research committee. this is the first study of its kind in Oman and the results will be helpful in shedding the light on the types of accidental injuries children are subjected to and to evaluate the contribution of neglect to the occurrence of such accidents.
Data collection started on the second week of November 2015 and will be completed at the end of the 2nd week of March 2016. up to date a total of 175 children are partiicipating in the study. SPSS version 22 will be used for the analysis of data.
