As the pace of railway reform and construction has accelerated obviously in China, total logistics service (TLS) has gradually become the future direction of railway freight development. This paper will study the railway freight business process (RFBP) for TLS, which is hardly reported by existing literature. Firstly, based on the analysis of market and customers’ demand, we present contents and changes of railway freight business (RFB) for TLS. Then with the adaptability analysis, we point out the problems existing in traditional process of RFB. According to these problems, the idea of designing RFBP for TLS is proposed, and the processes of acceptance, planning and implementation, and freight delivery are redesigned that will better adapt to TLS, meet customers’ demand and enhance the railway market shares. Finally, a real case is analyzed to verify that the new RFBP is practical and effective.
